Reme-D, an Egyptian healthtech startup focused on molecular diagnostics, has successfully raised $1.45 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital. The funding round also saw participation from the Global Innovation Fund and Africa Health Ventures, among others. Established in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D aims to revolutionize access to diagnostic testing for diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and HPV, particularly in underserved regions of Africa. The latest investment will bolster the company's manufacturing capacity and expand its product portfolio to include tests for genetic diseases and cancer, while enhancing the temperature resilience of its diagnostics for better transport and storage in remote healthcare settings.
Since its inception, Reme-D has made significant strides, developing and commercializing 30 diagnostic products and distributing over 550,000 tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. The company has supplied its products to both public and private healthcare entities, contributing to scientific research and publications. Notably, Reme-D has also equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory for the World Health Organization to aid in monitoring vector-borne diseases in remote areas of Egypt. With plans to increase its workforce from 50 to 150 and move into a larger manufacturing facility, Reme-D is set to enhance its production capabilities by tenfold.
