Flock, a London-based innovator in connected insurance for commercial motor fleets, has launched Jay, an advanced AI assistant integrated into its customer portal. This tool is available to all Flock fleet insurance clients and their brokers at no extra cost, aiming to streamline the management of vehicle coverage, driver behavior, and claims status through natural language queries. Unlike traditional reporting methods, Jay utilizes live fleet data to provide actionable insights, proactively identifying emerging risks and sending alerts to help prevent incidents before they escalate into claims.

The AI assistant was developed using over one billion kilometers of real-world driving data, allowing it to tailor its insights to the specific profiles of individual fleets rather than relying on generic industry benchmarks. During its pilot phase with 23 diverse fleets, including parcel delivery and taxi services, Flock found that 87% of participants returned to use the tool for further queries. Notably, one fleet operator was able to pinpoint a concentration of serious incidents on a specific road segment, a task that would have previously required extensive manual analysis.

Brokers who distribute Flock policies now have access to Jay's analytical capabilities, facilitating more informed client conversations around policy reviews and renewals. Ed Leon Klinger, Flock's CEO, emphasized that this development provides every customer with a dedicated expert that continuously analyzes vast amounts of data to optimize fleet performance. This move aligns with a broader trend in the commercial motor insurance market towards usage-based and telemetry-driven underwriting, a shift that Flock has been at the forefront of by integrating connected-vehicle data into its pricing and risk management processes.

The introduction of agentic AI in insurance is gaining traction, with most current applications focused on internal operations like claims processing. Flock's approach, which places AI directly in the hands of customers and brokers, marks a significant departure from traditional models, emphasizing customer retention and loss-ratio improvement. However, the regulatory landscape poses challenges, particularly concerning the Financial Conduct Authority's requirements for fair value and informed decision-making. As Flock navigates these complexities, the focus will be on demonstrating the efficacy of Jay through verifiable loss-ratio data over a full policy year and assessing its impact on broker renewal rates.
