Nubank has announced the appointment of Livia Chanes as the new chief executive officer for Latin America, a strategic move aimed at bolstering the fintech's international growth. Previously serving as Brazil's CEO since 2024, Chanes will now oversee operations in Mexico and Colombia, with country managers Armando Herrera and Marcela Torres reporting directly to her. This restructuring is designed to facilitate the transfer of successful strategies from Nubank’s established Brazilian market to its expanding operations in these newer territories.

Chanes emphasized her commitment to ensuring that the successes achieved in Brazil are replicated in Mexico and Colombia. With Nubank already recognized as the largest private financial institution in Brazil by customer count, Chanes highlighted the vast opportunities that remain untapped in these markets, positioning growth across various segments as the company’s priority.

This leadership change is part of a broader realignment within Nubank, which has seen Rob Livingston take on an expanded role as chief financial officer. The fintech is also in the process of establishing local CFO positions, following the recent creation of a global marketing role. Chanes, who joined Nubank in 2020, has played a pivotal role in the company's scaling efforts, which recently included the acquisition of a banking license in Mexico and an ongoing pursuit of a U.S. banking license expected to be granted by early 2027.

With over 15 million customers, Nubank is poised to become the largest digital bank in Mexico, a milestone that reflects the effectiveness of its business model. Founder and Global CEO David Vélez noted that the recent authorization and growth underscore the potential to transform how millions manage their finances, signaling a significant shift in the competitive landscape of digital banking in Latin America.
