The Transport General Authority (TGA) of Saudi Arabia has issued a stern warning regarding the use of unlicensed carriers by delivery applications utilized by restaurants and online retailers. The TGA indicated that it may take drastic measures, including blocking the operations of such apps, impounding vehicles, and deporting non-compliant drivers. This warning follows the identification of several businesses, particularly in the e-commerce and food sectors, that have been providing delivery services without the necessary licenses or adherence to regulatory frameworks governing transport and postal services. The TGA emphasized that companies selling their own products online must secure appropriate vehicle licenses or partner with licensed transportation providers. Furthermore, businesses engaged in electronic brokerage for goods transportation must obtain a specific license and comply with all regulatory requirements. The TGA has classified businesses into three categories, outlining the licensing obligations based on the nature of their delivery operations, and urged them to regularize their status to avoid potential penalties.
